Dr. Kent Ellington is a physician with the OrthoCarolina Foot & Ankle Institute.  In this video, Dr. Ellington shares data from recent studies that demonstrate how smoking hinders the healing process, as well as specific examples from his practice.  Dr. Ellington states, “It’s clear to see that these studies all demonstrate that smoking has a significant negative impact on the fracture healing process.”  Dr. Ellington encourages patients undergoing treatment for fractures to quit smoking before, during, and after the treatment process.
