After routine knee replacement surgery, Bob suffered an unexpected debilitating infection, followed by two unsuccessful emergency surgeries. He was rushed to OrthoCarolina’s Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) Clinic in hopes of saving his leg.
While periprosthetic joint infections are rare in total joint replacements, with less than 1 percent of patients developing an infection, they are serious.
