The physicians of the OrthoCarolina Spine Center are pleased to announce the 45th Annual Oscar Miller Day Symposium, “Hidden in Plain Sight: Missed Injuries and Trauma Pitfalls in Orthopedics and Spine” which will take place on Friday, October 30th, 2026 at IRCAD North America in Charlotte, NC.

Oscar Miller Day is an annual continuing medical education (CME) event co-sponsored by the OrthoCarolina Research Institute, Inc. (OCRI) and World Class CME. World Class CME is an ACCME accredited provider of continuing medical education.

The program includes a session for resident presentations with an opportunity to win the Basil M. Boyd Resident Research Award. The award is chosen for the best resident research presentation by the guest faculty speakers at the event and includes a $1,000 award.

HOW TO SUBMIT ABSTRACTS

Please encourage your residents who have basic science or clinical research projects involving surgical techniques, complications, outcomes, and/or management related to spine and urgent/trauma care orthopedic conditions to submit abstracts for presentation at this event. The resident(s) must be involved in the project and must be available to present their research on the day of the symposium. The deadline for abstract consideration is June 12, 2026.

Abstracts should be submitted via email to Research@orthocarolina.com.

Confirmation of acceptance will be sent to the author in late June. The residents who have been selected to present their abstract, and their program chair/residency coordinator, are invited to attend events on both Thursday, October 29th and Friday, October 30th.

Thursday, October 29:

  • 7:00am-10:00am: Grand Rounds/ Resident Conference with Guest Speakers
  • Evening: OrthoCarolina Faculty Dinner

Friday, October 30:

  • 7:00am-4:00pm: Oscar Miller Day Symposium, “Hidden in Plain Sight: Missed Injuries and Trauma Pitfalls in Orthopedics and Spine”
