Unfortunately, too often upper limb amputees suffer from residual limb pain, phantom limb pain, psychological distress and fragmented medical care. Caring for upper limb amputees requires a multi-disciplinary approach to achieve the best outcomes possible. The Bionic Reconstruction Conference (BReCON) understands this need and was created to provide an unparalleled experience uniting all of the requisite specialties as one international team to further all of our knowledge.

Hosted by OrthoCarolina Research Institute, this high yield, two-day event catered to leaders from around the globe. Surgeons, therapists, prosthetists and mental health professionals gathered in Charlotte to discuss cutting-edge approaches critical for holistic patient care.

Helping someone with upper limb loss return to an independent, fulfilling life, including returning to work, is a complex process.  It requires a team of experts: Skilled surgeons, rehabilitation physicians, prosthetists who specialize in upper limb prostheses, experienced occupational and physical therapists, engineers, and mental health professionals. This conference included some of the most experienced national and international experts in these fields.

Advanced surgical techniques and high-tech prosthetics are creating new opportunities for people with upper limb amputations. Many of these individuals are also looking for better, more comfortable, and functional solutions following surgery.

BReCON focused on the latest breakthroughs in amputation surgery and prosthetic technology. With multi-disciplinary panels, case-based breakout sessions, cutting edge research papers and keynote addresses, this promises to be the most instructive course dedicated to the management of upper limb loss ever held.
